Economic troubles caused East Texas missions to be moved to San Antonio. On March 7 fifty -five Canary Islanders arrive in San Antonio to establish a civilian settlement,San Fernando de BĂ©xar. On August 1, officials of the municipal government of San Fernando was chosen by voters in the first election held in Texas.
