1861 Fort Sumter

This is the battle that starts the civil war. Four states join the confederacy

1861 First Battle of Bull Run

Started by the union troops with 30,000 troops, they were scared because the confederates started yelling and running at them.

1862 the monitor versus the Merrimack

The fist battle against two medal covered ships. The north (monitor) is successful in hold off the south (Merrimack)

1863 emancipation proclamation

Emancipation means to free

President Lincoln made the emancipation proclamation to make people fight harder when they were losing the war in January 1, 1863

1863 Battle of Chancellorsville

The confederate army won the battle but lost many soldiers. Jackson gets shot from his soldiers as well 

1863 Battle of Vicksburg

 Gain control of the Mississippi River  on July 4, 1863 Vicksburg surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant.

1863 Battle of Gettysburg

The two met on accident and fought for three days and Lee’s army lost because of the charge he did

1865 Surrender at Appomattox

On April 9, 1865 Lee surrenders to to Grant in a small village  called Appomattox court house. Grant let Lee go and gave them food for the soldiers.

Jefferson Davis capture

In Georgia may 10, 1865 Jefferson Davis was captured and the was finally ended
